Wanderers Show The Way

THE Newcastle Jets should take a leaf from the Western Sydney Wanderers. In only their third season, the Wanderers have won the A-League minor premiership, appeared in two grand finals, and created history in achieving the pinnacle in Asian football by being the first Australian team to win the Asian Champions League.

Incredibly, a number in the Wanderers team played for the Jets but were not deemed good enough, or not suited to the playing style, to remain at the Jets. Today, these same players are deservedly basking in the glory of success with a club and coach who understand how to extract the best from players when it comes to pride, passion and skills.

Jets administration, past and present, have a lot to answer for in my view. Watching the Jets  is an exercise in frustration. Their play lacks cohesion, imagination and determination.

The season is young, though the supporters will rapidly age if we continue to watch a team without direction or the will to win
