THE Newcastle Jets played with true grit and spirit against the Mariners on Friday night, qualities that have been the missing ingredients in their performance this season. Without a fighting spirit and self-belief for the full 90 minutes, playing like show ponies will be insufficient to win games.

 

The Knights set the benchmark in playing for the jersey and the people of this region, with passion, resolve and steel.

 

Novocastrians know when that benchmark isn’t being met.

 

Continue to play with passion, fighting spirit and self-belief demonstrated on Friday night, with the quality football we know the Jets can play, and it will rekindle the hearts and minds of supporters and sponsors alike. Only then will Novocastrians be prepared to loosen their purse strings and pay the admission price and walk through the turnstiles.

 

The Jets turned the corner with this performance.
