Shame On Us For Lack Of Empathy

THE NEWCASTLE HERALD - Letter To The Editor 

 

THE vitriol directed at the now former member for Newcastle Tim Owen is un-Australian and – dare I say – un-Novocastrian. 

 

Mr Owen has paid the ultimate price for deceiving his wife, himself and the people of Newcastle.

 But it takes a man of character to admit that wrong, and credit must be given to Mr Owen for finally acknowledging his deceit. 

 

We have a right to be angry at the events that have been revealed at ICAC. 

 

But we’ve all made errors of judgment at some stage in our lives.

 

Such is the frailty of our human experience. 

 

While it’s easy to throw stones from behind the comfort of our computer, it’s in these times that we should also demonstrate some empathy and compassion for the vanquished.

 

Our community will be better for it.
